100_1038-150x121 Blogalicious 2009 Part 1!

What a weekend this has been! Blogalicious 2009 was an amazing gathering of social media women of color in Atlanta, GA.
There was so much learning, networking, and fun that I will have to blog about this is “at least” two posts.

First, the conference was held at the W Hotel in Midtown. The rooms were fabulous, as well as, guests services. Usually you find hotel conference room temperature to be either too hot or too cold. They had a perfect balance for the long day of sessions that we had. The food was even extraordinary. This was not your usual dry chicken and seasonal veggies. We had actual food with flavor and a wide variety. Two thumbs up to the W Hotel Midtown.

Mamalaw, which organized the whole event, did an excellent job with selecting topics, speakers, and event planning. My hat is off to these ladies. I can’t imagine what kind of sweat and tears it took to pull this off, but they had a passion for bringing women of color together to emphasize our influence in today’s market.

The networking was remarkable and everyone seemed very willing to help one another move to the next level. This is what I found refreshing, in that, there was no noticeable competition or heirs put on toward one another. There is plenty of room in the blogsphere and social media network to go around.

The speakers were incredible and I will post separately on that so that I can give detailed information on what inspired me the most. The sponsers were very generous and willing to learn how the minority community can influence the sale and promotion of their products. We also saw awesome presentations from three companies who are actively promoting to a more diverse community within their companies.

1. Mattel- The So In Style Barbie which represents African-American flavor by introducing dolls with different textures of hair, fuller lips, and a range of skin tones, was introduced to us at the conference. Mattell also gave each one of us a doll to take home to our family.

2. Disney- We got a sneek peek of the Princess and the Frog which is the story of an African-American girl who has dreams of having her own business and how dreams really can come true.

3. American Airlines- Presented BlackAtlas.com which is a site geared toward highlighting African and African-American culture all around the globe. The site is not up yet but this is one project that they are currently working on.

I will be posting more about the inspirational and educational speakers and what I learned the most about attending this conference. And oh yeah, pictures!!!
