The Blogalicious 2009 conference was full of women of color bloggers who definitely had the WOW Factor. The WOW Factor is about what each woman possesses that makes them stand out from the pack in the social media market.
The conference was full of speakers and educational seminars that provided the not only the inspiration to follow your passion, but provided us with the technological skills to take our blogs to the next level.
First shouts out to Huggies who provided the Childcare Suite for our children who we were able to bring with us and to the W Hotel in Midtown Atlanta for the lovely rooms.
Day 1
The conference opened up with a welcome reception (sponsored by “So In Style” Barbie and Pine-sol). While there, we were able to finally meet up with women that we have been following in the blogasphere. It is so great to be able to put a “face” to the “blog”. We all felt like we already knew each other because of our constant connection on the web.
Next MomNoirhosted a Girls Night Out party in which Chevrolet and OnStar provided the transportation. Of course, they also provided the transportation for the Blog and Drive that Nanette and I were able to participate in.
Day 2
Day two opened with a fabulous breakfast sponsored by Glade Candles, then followed by our morning keynote speaker James Andrews. He was an energetic speaker who left us with the message of “If the news is that important, IT will find me” which means if whatever you are blogging about has “substance” then don’t worry about it getting out there, it will find its way to the community. He also stated that the “riches are in the niches” meaning make yourself stand out from the crowd.
We then participated in a plenary session focused on social media and the woman of color. This delved into what is already out there dealing with blogging and women of color and where we want to take it.
The afternoon was dedicated to breakout sessions on topics such as:
Social media basics
Taking your blog to the next level
Style Online and The Multicultural Blogger
Mom 2.0
Possibilities and Pitfalls of Having YOU on the Net
The Art of Small Business Blogging
Nanette and I split up the breakout sessions between the two of us because we did not want to miss a single thing at this conference. Later that night we put all of our notes together and discussed what our next strategic blogger moves should be.
Our lunch keynote speaker, Karen Walrond of Chookooloonks, spoke about The Beauty of Different and how we should not strive to be like anyone else, but to make our “different” the best that it can be. She was phenomenal!
That evening we enjoyed a very tasty dinner and a town hall & plenary session about Marketing to Women of Color. This was a great session because the panel consisted of bloggers and marketing companies where they talked about how to promote to a more diverse community.
Day 3
There was a fitness walk in Piedmont Park for the Blogalicious participants and then a wonderful brunch where we were entertained by a new artist signed to Capital Records name Priscilla Renea. This girl has it going on!!!
Then we had the pleasure of hearing the story of the rise of best selling author Denene Millner and her beautiful tribute to her mother who is now deceased. Denene is an author and ghost writer for people such as Steve Harvey and Nene Leeks from RHOA!
The day ended with two last breakout sessions and closing remarks from MaMaLaw. It was then that it was announced that Blogalicious 2010 will be held in Miami Florida!!!! Cannot wait!!
Another shout out to the Blogalicious sponsors who provided so much to make this conference a success.
Thanks again to the beautiful women of Mamalaw for making this all possible!
